Whitworth Art Gallery

A wood block print from 1919 named 'Oriental Garden' designed by H. Watkins Wild. This design was printed in several different colours, including black to express the strong oriental theme the design has. Scenic images from this time were not traditionally repeat patterns so extension pieces were used on larger wall spaces.

This wallpaper was really beautiful, the shapes had a much cleaner edge to them and although this had a very hand crafted quality from the wood block, the overall design was far more impressive and luxurious than the digital prints.
