This cover was quite hard to illustrate the type within a pie and for it to still look like a pie, I tried a few different layouts with the best two being the one below and the second had type in the base and pastry toping, however when I took it into the book cover it wasn't successful and failed as looking like a pie, so instead I chose to work with the below design.
The first design uses colouring related to a pie, I have used warm golden browns which work really well, the foiling would be printed on the platting of the pie on the dark brown area, I think this would work well separating the text from the image but merging the type and the image in the background.
I have used a similar colour scheme to the above, these aren't as obvious pie colours as the above however they still work really well. I prefer the layout of the below design and the positioning of the pie and placement of the author, illustrator and quote. I also feel the use of the quote really helps add to the book, as this for me is quite an unknown story and it helps add a new element to it.
I choose the blue as an experimental colour and to use something different as many of the earlier designs I have used creams and peaches so I needed to try and use something different to introduce a new colour to the range. Although the blue is quite random, its my favourite group of colours, I really like it working against the cream of the title it helps it stand out from the background and has a modern and slightly more grown up feel to it.
